Gary Lane
Gary Lane is a well known author and chess player. He learned to play at the age of 8 when his brother taught him the moves but when Gary started winning the brother took up fishing as a hobby.

A popular coach for junior and senior chess champions he has written over 30 books. Some of the more popular titles include

“The greatest Ever Chess Ticks and Traps” while the kindle edition of Improve Your Chess in 7 Days has proved to be a bestseller. Also popular are the puzzle books Find The Checkmate and Find the Winning Move also available as e-books.

As a player he has won the Commonwealth Championship in 1988 (beating Michael Adams on tie-break) and also the Australian Championship in 2004. He continues to win various tournaments in 2020 such as the Newcastle Open in Australia and a few weeks later the Exeter Open in England. During the pandemic there was no over the board chess so Lane worked as a TV extra. He was spotted on the Netflix movie Interceptor and confirmed via twitter that he is in several scenes. Seated at the table in the White House scenes as he is charge of the US Navy. In 2022 Lane won with 8/9 the Asian Senior Championship in New Zealand (players aged over 50) and also picked up a GM norm. In 2023 he was = 1st at the Oceania Zonal before losing the play off match to determine who represented the area at the World Cup.
